Traditional Chinese Medicine Immersion

Traditional Chinese Medicine Immersion

with Liza Dousson & Sean Going LAc, MAcOM

Saturday November 17, 2-5pm

One of TCM’s basic tenets is that “the body’s vital energy (ch’i or qi) circulates through channels, called meridians, having branches connected to bodily organs and functions.”  Concepts of the body and of disease used in TCM reflect its ancient origins (said to be as old as 2,500 years or more!) and its emphasis on dynamic processes over material structure.  Within the living body meridians can not be seen with the naked eye, nor with a microscope.  Yet their presence has been scientifically credentialed, including by Yoga adept & scientist Dr. Hiroshi Motoyama, founder of the California Institute for Human Science, and esteemed scientific & spiritual teacher to Paul & Suzee Grilley and Sarah & Ty Powers of Yin Yoga fame.
Though an enormous topic, Doctor Sean will offer a scholar-made-layperson introduction to the ancient medicine system of Traditional Chinese Medicine, including a personal anecdote or two from his years of practice, to illustrate the modernity and wisdom of this amazing, complicated, logically illogical, healing modality.  Then Yoga Teacher Liza will offer embodied connection to this remarkable energy system in her role as “meridian guide” — including breathwork to affect Qi flow, meridian visualization and Yin Yoga’s slow, intentional traction/contraction approach (think acupressure, acupuncture’s sister)!
You’ll leave this immersion more informed & aware, more humbled & inspired…beyond theory…beyond science…and yet inclusive of them in your appreciation of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
