Artful Assists for Yoga Teachers
March 10, 2-5pm
with Liza Dousson
cost: $65 by March 3, $75 after March 3.
Artful assists come in many “colors” on the spectrum of hands-on contact in a yoga class. We as Teachers can feel nervous, shy, inexperienced, cautious – even all of the above – when it comes to connecting with our students during their poses.
Critical is remembering it is “their pose” in how we approach an assist. Sometimes we have concerns we'll be intrusive...and we might be. Sometimes we don't feel we'll execute the assist skillfully enough. Is our intent clear? Do we want to instruct direction, length, stabilization? Do we want to help a student feel gravity or ease a habitual holding pattern? Maybe just receive touch. Or not.
Being clear on our reason before applying hands-on contact is key to artful assists. And skill is a good idea too for confidence building & safety! We'll focus on the body from head to toes with gravity-based Thai-style assists best offered in slower practices when you can linger a bit with your student...to guide...to weight. They'll love you ever more for the somatic connection. You'll love having new assists to offer.
Spread the art.
